So transthoracic echocardiogram is used to determine your heart function. After you've had a heart attack, depending on how big the heart attack is, or depending on which blood vessels is blocked, you can have abnormal function of your heart where your heart is not squeezing normally. So the echocardiogram allows us to see the normal function of the heart, to evaluate the valves of the heart, and to determine how much damage your heart has sustained as a result of having a heart attack.
